As we travel, we will bear witness to over 5000 years of human history including the great civilizations of the Greeks, Roman, Byzantine and Ottomans. East meets West in a dazzling display of culture, cuisine and architecture. We will walk in the footsteps of Alexander, Homer and Cleopatra. Join us for a journey through the past on the Turquoise Coast with Idlewind Expeditions.

A cultural journey through a timeless land…
Travel aboard 65’ teakwood yachts, called gulets, and explore the scenic Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Walk among the fairy chimneys in the awe-inspiring region of Cappadocia and let your senses come alive in the mystical city of Istanbul.

We visit local villages, sleepy fishing towns and marble ruins that are centuries old. Our yachts can accommodate up to twelve guests, our crew offers impeccable service. The meals we serve are incredible, prepared with the freshest of local ingredients, true Mediterranean cuisine. The service we provide is the reflection of the hospitality of the people. Great scenery, blue waters, hiking, snorkeling, swimming, and of course, the trip is rich in historical sites and ruins, both above ground and below the sea.

To fully enjoy your Idlewind Expeditions’ trip, you must have a spirit of adventure, flexibility, curiosity, enthusiasm and a sense of humor. You will be visiting new places, meeting new people and experiencing a culture different than your own.

Our yachts are traditional wooden boats called “gulets”. They are well maintained, fully outfitted and considered the best of their kind. There is continuous hot water for fresh water showers, and holding tanks that enable you to shower or use the WC at any time. 24Volt electricity is available in sockets throughout, with 220volt available when the generators are running or when we are plugged in on shore. The yacht has a crew of three including captain, deck hand and cook, who is a master at his trade. The crew have separate quarters.
Our yachts will be cruising under power most of the time due to the broad itinerary coverage. However, they are fully equipped with dacron sails and a construction enabling her to sail without engine support. At the Captain’s discretion, he may reserve some time just for your sailing pleasure during the trip.

There are sun awnings, sun mattresses, plenty of sun deck space, sea ladder, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a furnished galley, freezer, ice, refrigerators, indoor salon, a Zodiac with outboard engine, sailboard, hi-fi cassette stereo system (yes you can bring a few of your favorite tapes), VHF radio, some fishing tackle, snorkeling gear and other navigational and recreational equipment available to you free of charge while on board.

The food on board is exceptionally good, very plentiful and made from the freshest of ingredients. Your best meals in Turkey will be had aboard our yacht. Meals typically consist of fresh and innovative local dishes, beautifully prepared and supplemented with fresh seafood as available. All meals are included with the exception of those noted in the itinerary. Bottled drinking water is provided free of charge.

The climate along the Turquoise Coast is predominantly Mediterranean. Summers are hot and dry, with average temperatures between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Although rain is not expected in the summer months, it is a good idea to bring along a light waterproof windbreaker. There is normally not too much wind, but as the sun goes down the coastline will gently cool, evening temperatures will range between 60 and 75 degrees.

All of our hikes should be easy to moderate for the average person. All hikes are optional, should you prefer to relax on board the yacht. We have approximately seven to ten hikes on our trips ranging from 1-3 hours (slightly longer in Cappadocia). Please note that several of our hikes require walking on coastal paths that can be moderately steep and somewhat rocky, sturdy walking or hiking shoes are recommended. Being able and enjoying to swim is important and advantageous on any boating trip, however full safety gear is provided. All participants should be in good physical condition to ensure an enjoyable trip.
